Six years after the release of the last Paranormal Activity movie, Blumhouse and Paramount are moving forward on a new installment in the franchise. William Eubank (Underwater) will direct from a screenplay by Christopher Landon. The writer recently said, “I’m really excited for this, mainly because no one could possibly guess what new, crazy nightmares Will Eubank and I are cooking up. Expect the unexpected.”

With production dates drawing near, it’s been revealed that the lead cast will consist of Emily Bader (Anonymous Killers), Roland Buck III (Chicago Med), Dan Lippert (Son of Zeus), and Henry Ayres-Brown (Monsterland).

The reigning purveyor of horror, Jason Blum, and Paranormal Activity writer/director Oren Peli, are producing. While there is virtually no information about the film’s plot, it has been rumored that Katie Featherston may return to the project. Fans of the franchise will be pleased to know that while this is being called a ‘reboot,’ the new Paranormal Activity will retain its ‘found footage’ aesthetic.

The original film centers on a couple who become increasingly disturbed by what appears to be a supernatural presence. They set up video cameras in their house, hoping to capture it on film. But they are not prepared for the terror that follows.

Paramount has decided that the film will be released through its Paramount+ streaming service with no date announced.
